E-commerce Logistics Packaging Special Zone Debuts in swop 2019——Business Opportunities i¬n the New Retail Era

According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, post offices and couriers across China handled a total of 1.882 billion parcels during the peak business period (11-16 November) of the Singles’ Day shopping festival in 2018. Number of parcels in China currently ranks number one in the world and has grown more than 20 times over the past decade. However, such rapid growth has led to huge wastage of packaging consumables. At the same time, omni-channel marketing, integrating brick-and-mortar stores, e-commerce, delivery, unmanned retail, etc. has emerged to meet the purchasing needs of consumers at any time, any place and any medium, but with the same shopping experience. The entire value chain is facing various challenges driven by fundamental changes occurring in product marketing, packaging and distribution, so the packaging industry must find or create new packaging solutions.

In order to spearhead the trend of e-commerce packaging, Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. have announced the launch of the “E-commerce Logistics Packaging Special Zone” in the Shanghai World of Packaging, swop 2019, which will be held on 25-28 November 2019. Leading manufacturers will bring advanced smart packaging equipment, robotics and logistics equipment to the zone, including:

E-commerce packaging automation
Takeaway food packaging
Green packaging
Packaging design
Fresh food cold chain packaging
Flexible processing and production
Intelligent warehousing system
IoT intelligent packaging
Packaging materials for distribution of products purchased online
Personalized packaging

This special zone will be located in the same area along with “SAVE FOOD”, “FMCG Future Zone”, “Printing Packaging” and “Components Zone”, which are the five major special events of swop. This year the exhibition area of swop 2019 will be expanded to more than 50,000 square meters, covering exhibition halls N1-N5 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Nearly 1,000 exhibitors will gather under the same roof, recognizing swop as a major event of the year for the packaging industry.

E-commerce Packaging Automation Delivers Low-cost Personalized Packaging

According to the China e-commerce statistic of 2017, the nationwide e-commerce transaction volume reached 2.916 billion yuan, increased by 11.7% compared to that of the previous year. Driven by the rapid development of e-commerce logistics, the product packaging industry is thriving. However, manual packaging operation can no longer meet the requirements of high precision and efficiency in a large quantity of product packaging, thus automatic packaging lines are springing up. Integrating carton forming, automatic boxing and automatic sealing, automatic packaging lines achieve unmanned packaging together with upstream automated production lines. According to the data released by the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association, the annual output value of the global packaging technology and packaging industry amounts to around USD 40 billion. 60% of which comes from the food and beverage industry, followed by pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and personal care products. Automated packaging can be customized and manufactured according to customers’ different packaging requirements.

Intelligent Warehousing & IoT Drive Development of Retail E-commerce

With the rapid development of e-commerce, the logistics industry is now under the spotlight, attracting the attention of various venture capitalists. The market size of China’s automated logistics system is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan in 2020. The growth rate is forecasted to remain at 15% and above for the next few years. Amazon acquired Kiva Systems for USD 775 million, while JD.com invested largely to build its own warehouses. It is necessary for logistics companies to have intelligent logistics systems, coupled with independent intellectual property rights, which are suitable for themselves. A complete hardware system typically consists of conveyor equipment, storage equipment, loading and picking equipment, re-batching equipment, re-binning equipment, packaging equipment and sorting equipment.

With the help of various information technologies such as IoT, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence; intelligent logistics will not only allow the e-commerce platforms to provide consumers with faster and more accurate services, it will also help reduce costs. Moreover, in the wake of increasingly scarce land resources, companies improve their warehouse space utilization by capitalizing on intelligent warehousing solutions.

swop 2019’s Top 100 Corporate Buyer Group Program will invite visitors from related departments, such as warehousing, logistics and planning, of various e-commerce platforms including JD.com, Tmall, Amazon, Vipshop, Suning, S.F.
