In-Mold Decoration (IMD) is an efficient, durable and cost effective technique for printing, painting, and forming plastic decorations. However, a large number of parameters involved IMD manufacturing processes and the complex relationship between these parameters make the determination of the optimal parameter setting a challenging task. This paper proposes a systematic framework integrating Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and logistic regression to improve the yield of IMD manufacturing process. The integrated framework becomes easy to identify the optimal parameter setting,saving a great deal of time and money in the manufacturing process. On the empirical study in collaboration with Yomura, the proposed framework shows the significant result from 10% to 87.5% validating the viability of the proposed framework in real setting. In Mold Decoration (IMD) is a cost effective method of decorating plastic parts. It consists of four steps: Printing, Forming, Trimming and Injection Molding. After a plastic film is silk screen printed with a customer’s design, it is then thermo-formed over a soft tooled mold. Once the plastic decoration is shaped it is trimmed to size. After trimming, the shaped film is placed into an injection mold and a selected mold material is injected behind it forming an integrated bond. IMD offers long lasting decoration with multiple colors and textures. Beyond IMD, membrane switches and/or additional double injection molding can be added to your part or product for extended functionality.

BTCE-9013 is a polymeric epoxy functionalized chain extender. The epoxy functional groups in its structure can react with the terminal carboxyl, hydroxyl, and amino groups in long-chain resin molecules to extend the polymer chain, thereby improving the resin's mechanical properties, intrinsic viscosity, and inhibiting polymer hydrolysis. It can be used in food contact materials. BTCE-9013 is generally co-extruded with modified resins using twin-screw or single-screw extruders. The recommended dosage for bio-based and biodegradable plastics such as polybutylene adipate/terephthalate (PBAT), polylactic acid (PLA), polybutylene succinate (PBS), polymethyl ethylene carbonate (PPC), and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) is 0.2-0.8 phr. The recommended dosage for condensation-based recycled plastics such as polyamide (PA), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polycarbonate (PC), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is 0.2-1.5 phr. The specific dosage depends on the number of active functional groups in the resin and the performance requirements of the product.
